WHAT IS A FACE OIL?
As the name signifies, face oil is indeed an oil formulated specifically for the face. Face oils are rich in essential fatty acids, nutrients and antioxidants. Synthetic and mineral oils can clog pores but properly extracted, and non-filtered natural plant oils are good for the skin. Face oils works as a protective barrier, leaving the skin nourished and adequately lubricated. Face oils have been proven to be highly effective in regulating sebum production, which is why they can be used on oily skin as well. Hydrating face oils such as Marula oil is good to treat irritated and sensitive skin. Supplemental oils such as Squalane and tea-tree work great against overactive oil glands, excellent for acne-prone skin. Oils with rejuvenating properties such as argan, almond, and sunflower are great to treat ageing skin concerns.
ARE FACE OILS REALLY WORTH ALL THE HYPE?
For more than a decade, especially during the days when I was struggling with the health of my facial skin, I tried different ingredients and went through almost all the essential products of an effective skincare routine but still never felt like investing in a facial oil. It’s not that I didn’t believe it to be a good product but rubbing oil all over my face seemed like something quite problematic. Little did I know that these are not just oils but magic potions and can do wonders to the skin if used properly. Back in 2016, I struggled with sensitive skin, and had some parched patches on both my cheeks and acne on my chin. That was the time when I got introduced to the facial oils by a very good friend of mine, and she got it recommended by her dermatologist.
Therefore, I myself have experienced the effectiveness of facial oils and have seen them working for my skin. But, to keep it real and simple at the same time, I must state that we all need to know that facial oils are not a necessary or a must-do part of any skincare routine. Instead, it should be considered an extra step to be added to your beauty regimen. However, the benefits are worth the hype.
HOW TO USE A FACE OIL?
If you tend to apply your face oil without integrating it into your complete skincare routine, then simply use it after you have properly cleansed your skin. Two to three drops would be enough to cover the whole face. Pour it in your palm, first dab it on your face and then gently massage it on your skin in an upward sweeping motion.
It is necessary to note that, if you have integrated a face oil in your skincare routine where you are using all the other products as well, always make sure to apply your face oil by the end because no other product would be able to penetrate the face oil. So it should always go in the end, locking up all the layers of products and goodness within your skin.
