WHAT IS A HAIR CONDITIONER?
A hair conditioner is a hair care product that helps to nourish and hydrate your hair. It works as a moisturizing agent and provides instant shine and smoothness to hairs leaving them silky and soft. Hair damaged by excessive bleaching, hair dyeing or heat looks dry and rough, but a hair conditioner can help tame that frizzy and brittle hair. In addition, hair conditioners have this proven ability to protect the hair shafts, eventually decreasing the chances of hair breakage. Moreover, the hair conditioner’s protection of the hair shafts ensures the reduction of our arch-nemesis, AKA split ends. And not just that, but always remember that properly conditioned hairs are the easiest to manage.
THE IMPORTANCE OF HAIR CONDITIONER.
Although I stated many benefits that a hair conditioner brings us, I have still seen people not giving much importance to this hair care product. Many assume that using a shampoo with conditioning properties would be more than enough to deal with their concerning hair issues. However, there is a significant difference between these two products. The shampoo is a cleansing product specifically designed to wash off dirt, oil, sweat and the residue of other hair care products. In comparison, a hair conditioner is a moisturizing product that works as a conditioning agent. How is this complicated to understand? When we wash our face with a cleanser, we tend to apply a moisturizer to ensure that our face is not just moisturized but also adequately hydrated. The same goes for our hair. Excessive use of hair styling products, heating, bleaching or other environmental aggressors can affect our hair’s health, leaving it dull and dry. A good hair conditioner is what we call a solution to all these hair issues.
TYPES OF CONDITIONERS.
The conditioners are divided into three main categories.
● Rinse-out conditioners: these conditioners are the most commonly used type of conditioner. This is usually applied after the shampoo. Use a sufficient amount of product, leave it in for a few minutes and then rinse thoroughly. These conditioners provide instant results, leaving hairs more shiny and manageable in just a single wash.
● Deep conditioners: they do what they say, provide deep conditioning. Ideally, it should be used by those who have dried and damaged hair due to heat, hair dyes, or other chemical treatments. Deep conditioners are also supposed to be washed off thoroughly, but you need to leave them for at least 30 to 40 minutes before washing to let them penetrate deeper into the hair shaft and provide all the moisture that your hair is looking for.
● Leave-in conditioner: leave-in conditioners are the thinnest in terms of texture, so you can leave them in your hair without worrying that they would weigh down your hair or make it look oily or greasy. These conditioners work best as a detangler and combat all that unwanted frizz and flyaways.
● Pro-tip 1: never apply your conditioner on dripping wet hairs because it would be hard for the conditioner to stay on such hair. Squeeze out excess water or dab them with the towel before applying your conditioner.
● Pro-tip 2: never apply conditioner to the roots of your hair. No matter what type of conditioner you are using, always apply from the mid-shaft of your hair to the ends. Applying conditioner to the roots can weigh down your hair, causing them to look thin and greasy.
